The Alchemist Flame The Final Formula Series Book 3 eBook Becca Andre Reviews

I never thought I'd complain about having too much happen in a book, but now I know why it's a problem. There's a needful balance between plot, character/relationship developing and world-building. If too much writing energy goes into making the characters do things, there isn't enough to sustain the other aspects of the story. This book has a touch of that issue. To some degree, the characters are being developed and the bonds between them strengthened and nuanced. To a lesser degree, the world is being refined and extended with new ideas and people. But because there's just so much running around and dealing with stuff, I got done with the book and felt slightly stunned. I'm really hoping that the next book in the series helps consolidate everything that happened in this story, and connects it more deeply into the storyworld's context. I really want the characters to get enough time to become more who they're supposed to be, both within themselves and their mutual relationships.
From the first book in the series to this one, I've loved seeing Addie's character develop. The author does an excellent job of showing who Addie is and allowing her character to change as she learns more about the people around her. I've really enjoyed watching Addie and Rowan's relationship grow and change, and the author does a good job of portraying a realistic, matte relationship (aside from the magic and such) without contriving situations to make their relationship more "interesting."

The dialogue is excellent, and I've found myself smiling or laughing out loud several times. I appreciate that the books are realistic, and the author doesn't try to tie up all the lose ends and make everything perfect. I look forward to reading the other books in the series once they are published.

The books in this series are not stand-alones, and to fully understand what is going on in the books you need to read them in order. That being said, this one is my favorite in the series so far.
Even though this isn't something I'd ordinarily read, I was hooked from the very first book in the "Final Formula" series. In this installment of the series, we return to Addie's POV, with some important new characters, introduced in the previous volume, integrated into the plot.

The writing is solid, with very few mistakes in editing. The stories are fast-paced without being frenetic (mostly), but I am especially impressed with how all the various pieces of the overall story fit together. It's taken several books, but the characters finally appear to be aligning with their own best interests. They're trying to communicate w/ each other, and trust each other -- even when there are grounds for suspicion. At the same time, several plot elements remain unresolved. These characteristics, together with Andre's consistent ability to reveal new things about her world & the characters with which she's populated it, keeps the series fresh.

At the same time, I think we're approaching a place where the overall story arc should resolve to a conclusion. Although I'll miss some of the characters, I'm looking forward to that.
I do love this series, it just keeps getting better and better. In book 3 there are even more twists and turns, and even some surprises. Again, this is a fast paced book, with what seems like continuous action. All the characters are written so believably and the world building is exceptional. Becca Andre certainly has a way with words.

In this book, we are introduced to a few new characters, some of which, I have a feeling, we are going to see more of. Addie, as usual, manages to get herself into some crazy situations. Ian finds out about some of his family, and to top it all off, there is a Ghoul Master flotilla around.

Overall, you will not be disappointed if you pick up this book. It picks up after book 2.5 nicely, so I would recommend reading that before you read book 3. There is minimal cussing, slight sexual innuendo's and the briefest sex scene. All of which is done in really good taste. Can't wait to get my eyes on the next book.
This story is incredibly complex, with so many plot twists. Sometimes I’m nervous that it will turn out that I’m the bad guy. Who knows who it could be next.

As always, running thoughts

I feel like a lot has happened between the ending of the last book and this book. I probably should have read the novella.

Okay I feel like I’m missing too much. I’m going to pause and go read the novella.

Okay, nevermind. Pretty sure that the novella isn’t going to catch me up on what is happening with Addie and Roe. Sigh.

Legit life question why doesn’t she just give him a small amount of X Dust when they want to get down to it? That would take away the flame.

Poor Colby.
Poor Roe.
Wow, this book of the series really is full of action. You learn more about the characters and what they are capable of, especially Addie. What is amazing is that she keeps finding out more about herself all of the time and in the end of the book she comes to a very profound realization.

The entire Mallory/Nelson family is very complicated and it seems to get more so with each book. You find that you are not sure which family members are the “good” ones and which are just downright evil. Their family connections and relationships, while it looks at times like it is getting clearer, are actually becoming more convoluted.

The ending leaves some closure but a lot more questions than answers. Looking forward to the next book.
