Heart of Terror Craig W Dressler 9781621471875 Books

I learned about this book through the www.kingdomgigs.com website.I ordered a copy and read it in a couple of days. It was a different perspective into a foreign land with different customs. The main character is an American who somehow finds himself in that foreign world struggling to survive. I never did quite buy-into "why" the main character would get involved into the mix-up he found himself in. Nevertheless I continued reading to find out what would happen. The ending felt to "convenient" and lacked conclusion. Otherwise it was a fresh perspective into the mind of simple terrorists.

Heart of Terror Craig W Dressler 9781621471875 Books Reviews

Craig Dressler has written a relatively short novel that follows the paths of two men drawn into the war of Islamic radicals against the United States. Chase, an American teacher in the Middle East is sucked into the War on Terror by the CIA who conscript him to inflitrate a terror cell. The other is an Iranian named Daoud who simply wants a better life but becomes the associate of an Iranian terror plotter.

The story is a low-key, solidly written account that reveals some of the inner-workings of the Muslim world in Iran and Saudi Arabia. Both characters are somewhat passive players in this intrigue that takes them to the heart of America along with terrorists planning on detonating a dirty bomb. Throughout the story, Dressler reveals apparent insights into the Middle East and some of the dyanamics of the Muslim mind.

The story is engaging and flows smoothly in a steady rhythm. It lacks the page-turning suspense and a climactic conclusion that would give it a 5 star rating; however, it is an entertaining and thought provoking story.
"Heart of Terror" by Craig W. Dressler is a very good read of Christian oriented espionage. It follows the path of two "good guys" who both find themselves deeply imbedded in Iranian terrorist cells. They meet early in the story, part ways for a number of years, and then are reunited by circumstances.

What I liked most about this book is that it just 130 pages long. Its a quick read. But, even given its relative shortness, is a tale with rich character development and obvious exhaustive research by the author. Never once did I doubt that this entire story could actually be taking place in today's world of religious separation.

The reader is in for a treat in getting to know the two main characters as they question their lives, motives, and participation in the story. Even within 130 pages, the author craftily weaves a tale that slowly builds its crescendo to the final climax.

I know I've already mentioned the book's length two times. However, I was pleasantly surprised how Mr. Dressler was able to weave this believable piece of fiction with such efficient use of words.

I highly recommend this book, as it will provide you a few hours of entertaining reading, as well as some new insights into Middle Eastern and Islamic culture. Mr. Dressler has authored a handful of other books, and I definitely look forward to reading more of his work. Get this one!!

This book was provided to me as an ARC directly from the author. I was gifted the book in exchange for a fair and timely review. I have no personal or professional ties to the author or the publisher. And there was no financial incentive on either the author or this reviewer.

This review may be found on goodreads.com, , and on my blog [...]
This short story (about a 130 pages long) is quite well written and very engaging. It won't take you long to read but it is well worth your time. It is more entertaining than most TV shows now a days.

Dressler gives us to short stories that start out together, take divergent paths and then eventually come back together right at the end. But the main crux of the stories is about two young men who have very different backgrounds. One is an Iranian, Daoud, who has grown up in a closed culture. As a child he had to participate in the Iran / Iraq war. He was 11 but sent to the front to help find land mines. You won't believe how they did it.

The other is Chase, an American who moves to Saudi Arabia to teach English as a second language.

But before moving to Saudi Arabia Chase was in Japan and meet Daoud who was there as a construction worker. Their paths cross in a park where they meet often to talk in English.

But then their paths separate. Chase to Saudi Arabia and Daoud back to Iran (because of a construction accident). But what happens is that both of them end up through a series of events working for terrorist. They don't want to, but that is what happens. Daoud because he needs a job and Chase because the American CIA wants him to go under cover to help smoke out a terrorist cell.

Every other chapter takes you to one or the other character and develops their harrowing times of being with terrorist. They both have questions about why they are doing what they do. They both are drawn in to the Muslim faith because of their circumstances, but both question the Jihad and teaching of the Koran. But they must keep up their work because of the circumstances.

But what happens is truly interesting. Both start a search of Religous truth. Both start to question Islam and both start to wonder about Christianity. Both eventually have conversion experiences to the Christian Faith and come to believe in Jesus Christ.

But even with that both will continue to work with the terrorist they are with but look for ways to expose them.

As the stories unfold you catch a glimpse of what life is like in Iran and Saudi Arabia. You learn that not all Muslims are bad people. You learn that only the terrorist have a warped sense of their religous need to bring Jihad on the Great Satan, America.

The story is well written, it will keep you turning the pages to find out how things will end. The conclusion will be one you find interesting. Although it may be a bit far fetched how they come back together it still brings a good story to a good end.

I will give a disclaimer here, Craig Dressler sent me a copy of his book asking for an unbiased review.

I procrastinated in getting to it, the snow storm helped. But I must say I am sad that I waited so long to read the story. It is well written and very interesting.

I will definitely look for other works that Craig Dressler writes, and will be happy to pay for them to be able to read more of his wrirting.

I don't think you will be disappointed with this book. Enjoy it.
